Ashes winning captain Michael Vaughan says India made the right call to axe struggling skipper Rohit Sharma from this series-deciding Test.

Sharma, 37, has had a terrible tour with bat in hand and tactically, although India’s top-order woes were exposed again this morning even without him in the line-up.

England great Vaughan said now was the time for India to move on from Sharma.

“He is just not in any kind of form. He is averaging six in the series, 31 runs. You go back over the course of the last 14 innings in Test cricket, he is averaging 11. I think he has made the right call,” Vaughan told Fox Cricket.

“Whether we see Rohit Sharma in Test match cricket again, it has to be a great doubt. We might not see Rohit in the whites again. Jasprit Bumrah, we saw in Perth, did a wonderful job.

“He has been a wonderful player, he has been a fantastic white-ball player and still has plenty to give in that format, but I would probably now think it’s time for Rohit to move out of the Test arena.”
