Rory McIlroy has done it, he won the Masters. In doing so, he became just the sixth golfer to complete the career Grand Slam.

He defeated Justin Rose in a one-hole playoff to claim the 89th Masters Tournament and win his fifth major championship.

Celebrities like Patrick Mahomes celebrated McIlroy’s win, but one of the biggest names to congratulate the Northern Irishman was Phil Mickelson.

Despite their differences, which there have been many between the PGA Tour and LIV Golf discourse, Mickelson reacted to seeing McIlroy finally conquer his demons at Augusta National.

“What an incredible Masters 😳. Congrats to Rory on his win and for completing the career grand slam. Amazing 👍,” Mickelson wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

Lefty knows what it feels like to win this tournament. He has three Green Jackets from 2004, 2006, and 2010. Many strive to accomplish this achievement, but few actually do.

Mickelson participated in this year’s tournament but missed the cut at 5-over through two rounds.

The 54-year-old is close to the Grand Slam himself but may never achieve it. Mickelson has six majors, but the only one he has not won is the U.S. Open.

Like McIlroy with the Masters, Mickelson has his demons with the U.S. Open. He finished as runner-up six times in that tournament.

McIlroy joins an elite players club and is the first since 2000 to complete the slam.

When someone accomplishes an achievement like the career grand slam, a good sport will congratulate them regardless of their off-the-course feelings. Mickelson and McIlroy may not agree on everything, but elite athletes respect each other.
